"I Hear A Voice Calling (It Must Be Al Gore)" written by Lee Paxton and recorded on Jan. 10, 2007 I hear a voice calling, and it must be Al Gore (it must be Al Gore) saying that global warming is real I hear a voice calling, and it must be Al Gore (it must be Al Gore) saying we need to save this world Global Warming is real, and you cannot ignore (you cannot ignore) that something is terribly wrong So you'd better listen, you better do what you can (do what you can) 'cause the ice caps are melting away So all you right-wing Christians, you better use your gourd (use your gourd) wake up 'cause global warming is real and Jesus ain't here yet, but if he were here today (if he were here today) I bet he'd say we need to try to save this world I hear a voice calling, and it must be Al Gore (it must be Al Gore) saying that global warming is real I hear a voice calling, and it must be Al Gore (it must be Al Gore) saying we need to save this world Now I'll tell ya about this song: This is my first song of the new year (January 2007), and it's really an old religious song that I rewrote in a very sassy way (but I think deservedly so, in this case). Some people don't want to believe that Global Warming is really happening, but it is, and even Al Gore knows it, haha. Well, the song is one from an old religious song that has been around for a long time, who knows, but it seems to have come out of Appalachia and was played by Bill Monroe and more recently by Ricky Skaggs (and I'm sure others in the Bluegrass field). The song is "I Hear A Voice Calling", in which they sing, "I Hear A Voice Calling, it must be the Lord", and I always thought that line was rather presumptuous, ain't it? I mean, heck, just because you HEAR a voice calling doesn't mean it's automatically the Lord, dang, it could mean you've gone bat shit crazy too, haha. Well, so I thought that since there are a lot of Right-Wing Christians out there these days who seem to be neglecting the real aural voices calling out there about things that are really going on in the world - like the realities of Global Warming - I thought this song would be an appropriate first song of the new year. I sing it in the "Buckeye Cowboy" way that I know best, haha, or perhaps more like a liberal Johnny Cash, and adding a slight nod to Elvis near the end (because his birthday was earlier this week). So, I hope ya like it.
