Ohio River Theme Revisited
by Lee Paxton © 2004
Floating down the Ohio River
feelings move you to thoughts unknown
along the clay banks and streams
and the hills along the Ohio River Valley
you’ll find a house and, that’s my humble home
(As I walk along the banks
of my clay brown river
the sun is shining, and I feel so alive....)
Barges push coal down the Ohio River
while smokestacks boom and wain
shovelin’ coal right on down the Ohio River
shovelin’ coal, Lord, I’d much rather be free
(Long have your waters lapped against these banks
long may they roll
winding through hillsides and valleys
for thousands of years and
flowing to the sea)
