Cultural observations are my game, and I saw what they did to Natalie Maines
They treated that poor girl so wrong, and tried to compare her to Saddam Hussein
In the Spring of 2003, she spoke her mind out on Bush and how he's a dumb monkey
But in the South the message didn't fair too well, and rednecks tried to damn that poor girl straight to hell

Back in the hills of Tennessee, the Nashville establishment doesn't want singers to be free
to express their thoughts and speak their mind, unless confederate flags fly close behind
Now I don't mind speaking out for good, and I don't care if the money's no good
The record industry takes what it wants and leaves the rest
But they shouldn't leave behind one of their few modern country bests

The Dixie Chicks were proud and brave, and rednecks tried to put their careers in the grave
But fools like Charlie Daniels and Toby Keith
Now look more like idiots for Bush who is now in defeat
